  • Expand Icon How does Trulicity work?

Trulicity is similar to the human hormone GLP‑1 and is thought to work much the same way:

    • It helps your pancreas release insulin in response to high levels of sugar in your blood
    • It can limit how much sugar gets into your blood from your liver
    • It helps slow down how quickly food leaves your stomach
  • Expand Icon Will I notice a change in my A1C with Trulicity?

In studies, patients lowered their A1C by 0.7 to 1.6 percentage points on average.

  • Expand Icon How do I know if received my required dose?

Sometimes you may not feel the injection. If the gray plunger on the Trulicity Pen is visible, your dose was delivered and the injection is complete.

  • Expand Icon How do I change my Trulicity Day?

It’s helpful to choose a Trulicity Day that fits in with your schedule, but schedules change—and that’s okay. Learn how to change your Trulicity Day here.

  • Expand Icon Can I travel with the Trulicity Pen?

Yes! You may store your pen at room temperature below 86°F (30°C) for up to 14 days. Just be sure not to freeze your pen and to keep it away from direct heat and light. The pen has glass parts, so handle it carefully, and if you accidentally drop it, do not use it. Get a new pen for your injection.

  • Expand Icon Will I notice a change in my weight?

Trulicity is not a weight loss drug, although you may lose a little weight. In studies, people who lost weight lost 2 to 6 pounds on average.

  • Expand Icon What is a GLP-1 receptor agonist? Is it the same as insulin?

GLP-1 receptor agonists are a type of drug that help the body release insulin when your blood sugar rises after eating. It is not insulin. GLP-1 receptor agonists limit how much sugar gets into your blood from your liver and help slow down how quickly food leaves your stomach. Sometimes doctors may prescribe both insulin and a GLP-1 receptor agonist.

  • Expand Icon What if I miss my dose?

    • If there are 3 or more days (72 hours) until your next Trulicity Day, take the missed dose as soon as possible
    • Skip the missed dose if there are less than 3 days remaining and take your next dose on your regularly scheduled Trulicity Day
    • Do not take 2 doses of Trulicity within 3 days of each other (get more information here)
  • Expand Icon What are the potential side effects of Trulicity?

The most common side effects with Trulicity tend to be mild to moderate. These may include:

    • nausea
    • diarrhea
    • vomiting
    • abdominal pain
    • decreased appetite
    • indigestion

In studies, gastrointestinal side effects were more common in people taking Trulicity than in people taking the placebo, and people taking Trulicity were more likely to stop treatment because of these side effects.

Trulicity may also cause serious side effects, including possible thyroid tumors (including cancer), inflammation of your pancreas, low blood sugar, serious allergic reactions, or severe stomach problems. Some side effects can lead to dehydration, which may cause kidney problems (including kidney failure).
